December 9, 1914 I have just recieved this journal form my 16th birthday. I've never really had a journal before so this is brand new to me. Well for starters I am Clara Feticini. I live in Sicily, Italy. I recieved some news from my father today that war has broke out between Germany and France. The war started because of both being so proud of what they had. This is nationalism which is, a strong devotion to one's country. Such as, Germany was proud of their new military power and industrial leadership. France wanted to gain back it't position as Europe's leading power. They wanted to get back the territories Alsace and Lorraine from Germany. Enough of this war talk for tonight. I fear father might want to go out fighting for the war if he has to. Well see you later.
